Old Town Elementary School
Old Town, Maine 2003Faced with the need for considerable upgrades at four old schools, Old Town chose to build a new K-5. Collaboration between the town, the University of Maine, and state agencies resulted in an 18-acre site adjacent to a shopping center and new YMCA, with a bike path that adjoins the university. Site development includes play areas and five playfields. Daylighting techniques incorporated into the design reduce the use of artificial light and minimize heating and cooling costs.
