Gorham Elementary School

Gorham, Maine     Under construction

Slated for construction in 2010-2011, the new Gorham Elementary School will serve 550 students in grades K-5. Located adjacent to conservation land and a land trust parcel, the new site will provide a quiet and safe environment for the students.

The new school is being designed as a high-performance learning environment and will include daylighting and high performance lighting to reduce electrical costs, a geothermal/geo-exchange system to reduce the use of fossil fuels, a solar hot water system, "on-demand" ventilation to maximize fresh air, and building envelope and insulation strategies to reduce heating and cooling costs. Site planning includes separate bus and parent drop-off areas, four multi-purpose athletic fields for community use, and an area for a future16-classroom expansion.
