Mt. Blue Learning Campus

Farmington, Maine
Completion expected 2013

This major overhaul of the Mt. Blue High School/Foster Technical Center campus will serve as a state model for fully integrating career technical education with the academic high school for students from nine sending towns. The design encourages collaboration among the academic high school, the community, and the career technical center and allows students more flexibility in planning courses of study. Additions and renovations will expand facilities in every discipline, adding new public spaces for school and community use and incorporating community college and adult education programs and a business incubator. The RSU community has kicked off a fundraising campaign to pay for extra features, including equipment for athletics and the arts, artificial turf playing fields, an enhanced auditorium. Green features of this high-performance school include biomass boilers, geothermal heating technologies, and solar and wind installations. The school will remain open during construction, which will begin in September 2010 and will be accomplished in six phases over three years.
