PDT’s public buildings are designed to communicate responsibility to the taxpayers. The new ones are unmistakably modern buildings of our own era that echo local materials and details and reinterpret them for context and performance. The renovations fit modern interiors and building systems into fine old frames. They strive to be elegant, but not lavish; sturdy, but not flashy; economical to operate; and straightforward and secure in circulation.
As taxpayers, small business owners, and designers of Maine public architecture, we understand the value of each dollar. Simple does not mean cheap, and pragmatic and modest do not degrade quality.
